Graphic+Web Designer

We are looking for a Graphic and Web Designer to help us bring brands to life through well-executed visuals and user-friendly website designs. In this role, you will collaborate closely with different team members to create engaging digital and print assets, develop brand identities, design responsive websites, and ensure cohesive branding across all platforms. 

We’re ANVL, (just call us anvil). We’re a full-service branding and marketing agency obsessed with the idea of ‘brave creative’. Why an anvil? It’s the foundation of solid creative. It allows us to forge brands, create campaigns, build websites, and fashion ideas. We temper bold design with objectivity, technique and a critical eye to ensure that the tools we provide our clients will stand up to the scrutiny of the real world. A tool is made to perform and we ensure our designs exceed expectations for all those we are fortunate enough to work with.

Your Manifesto

You have a passion for visuals and aesthetics you can’t quite explain. You have a “no excuses” attitude when it comes to completing a task, along with attention to detail and follow-through to ensure that it’s done correctly the first time. You can buckle down under the headphones but can also shake it up in group brainstorms—sharing, ideas, laughs, and happy hour. 

Finally and maybe most importantly, you aren’t phased by tight deadlines, creative problem-solving, and hard work. 

Day to Day

  • Collaborate with the design team to create graphics, layouts, and visuals for social media, websites, and a variety of marketing materials.
  • Participate in brainstorms to develop new brands from the ground up—helping to write their stories and translate them to a visual design for maximum impact.
  • Collaborate with the project lead to develop site maps, wireframes, mockups, and composite layouts for websites.
  • Work with developers to ensure seamless functionality and user-friendly experiences for websites.
  • Help research and conceptualize visual identities for new brands or rebrands.
  • Stay up to date with the latest design trends, UI/UX trends, and best practices.
  • Constantly feeding your creative mind with new inspiration and growing your skills for yourself and the company.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Working with different team members to align creative output with campaign objectives.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite – InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Familiarity with Adobe XD or Figma for web design.
  • An “eye for design” and a grasp of design principles for print design and production (Typography, Hierarchies, White Space, Visual Balance, etc.).
  • Being a problem solver and collaborating with a team but when necessary having the discipline to hunker down and get the job done on your own.
  • General understanding of website functions and structures—primarily for the WordPress CMS platform.
  • Familiarity with newsletter creation using third-party platforms like Mailchimp.
  • Strong communication skills (on paper, email and face-to-face).
  • Organized with a keen attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions (verbal or written).
  • Ability to manage projects independently with reliability and minimal supervision.
  • Having a willingness to grow and learn outside your comfort zone.
  • Ability to think creatively and solve problems outside the box, while also being content completing routine production design tasks.
  • Leaving your ego at the door.

Minimum of 2 years experience in graphic and web design, whether at an agency or otherwise.

Work Location

This is an in-studio position, chosen applicant must live in Edmonton, Alberta.
